KARACHI - The continuous incidents of terrorism, targeted killings and lawlessness has severely affected the old residents of Karachi, the Balochs, who played an important role in the development of the city. Addressing a press conference at Karachi Press Club on Tuesday, Baloch nationalist leaders including National Party Senator Hasil Bizanjo and Balochistan National Party-Mengal (BNP-M) General Secretary Jehanzeb Baloch, alongwith other party office bearers, said that the Baloch people were being targeted in Karachi by branding them as war-gangs and terrorists by some TV channels and ethnic parties of Karachi.Baloch leaders pointed out that Baloch people being targeted in Karachi as many parts have been made no go areas for them. They claimed that at least 140 Balochs were killed by the terrorists, during four months, in the city. Targeted killing of the Balochs still continued as if any Baloch go for labour work in other areas, his dead body was found the other day.The Baloch leaders pointed out that the areas of the Balochs in the City were deprived of basic facilities. On the other side, propaganda being initiated by the TV channels to declare areas and communities of Balochs as terrorists and gang-war in the City. Even some political parties while terming the Lyari as base of Taliban and the Baloch Liberation Army (BLA) demanded operation against the Balochs.Baloch nationalist leaders opined that almost each political and religio-political party has their arms-wing, through which they have divided the city on political basis.  The Baloch leaders came down hard against the MQM and said that through its actions, the MQM considered it was the only owner of the City.The Balochs as nation not gang-war nor they extortionists, but they were being targeted by the terrorists in the city, leaders said. They alleged that the murder of Muhammad Yaqoob Baloch, chief organiser of the National Party occurred in a particular area, which is a stronghold of the ally party of the government, so they are responsible for this incident. They further alleged that government’s ally party has confrontation with the each community and political party in the city as it doesn’t tolerate the existence of any other party in the City. They said the Balochs would not sit idle. They warned that they will take other options if killings of the Balochs were not stopped in the City.Baloch nationalist leaders announced that they would convene a ‘Baloch National Conference’ in the City, where all the Baloch political leaders from all over the country, irrespective of their political affiliation, will be invited, so that a joint strategy be adopted against the killings of the Balochs in the city.
