KARACHI - Fayyaz Leghari, PSP officer of BPS-21, has been appointed as Sindh Inspector General of Police. According to the notification issued by Establishment Division in Islamabad on Tuesday, Leghari, who was serving as the Director General of the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA), transferred and posted again as the IGP Sindh. On the direction of Supreme Court, Fayyaz Leghari was removed as IGP Sindh in June 2011. But the killing of Sarfaraz Shah, brother of the reporter of a private news channel and his killing’s footage was also on-aired in media, proved disastrous for Leghari and became a cause of his removal from the slot of the IGP. The Supreme Court of Pakistan had removed Leghari and Pakistan Rangers Sindh Director General Brigadier Ejaz Chaudhry from their high ranking posts on June 10, 2011 soon after it took suo moto notice of Sarfaraz Shah extrajudicial murder case.  Shortly after this, the Supreme Court of Pakistan reverted Pakistan Rangers Sindh DG Brigadier Ejaz Chaudhry to his duties as the DG Pakistan Rangers Sindh and Leghari was not reinstated. He was made Officer on Special Duty (OSD). On May 25, he was appointed as the director general of the Federal Investigation Agency.Leghari’s name is being considered among one of the senior officers. He was recruited in the police service on March 29, 1979, and was first posted as ASP Headquarters, Karachi in 1981, followed by his posting as Deputy Commandant Sindh Constabulary, Karachi. Leghari has been served on many high-profile positions including SP South Karachi, SSP South Karachi, SSP Malir Karachi, DIG Traffic, DIG Operations and Investigation Karachi, DIGP T&I, DIG Headquarters, SP Thatta, SSP Hyderabad, SSP Mirpurkhas, DIG Larkana, DIG Special Branch (Sindh) and Regional Police Officer (RPO) Hyderabad.On September 2010, Leghari was assigned the post of the Capital City Police Officer (CCPO), Karachi in place of Waseem Ahmed, who was appointed as the FIA chief.  The slot of the IGP, Sindh was vacant since Sunday after the former IGP Mushtaq Shah left the charge of the office on Saturday. Leghari would assume charge as the IGP, Sindh on Wednesday (today). However, SSP Javed Akbar Riaz has been transferred to the FIA on promotion to grade-19 while SP Abdul Salam Sheikh has been appointed as the new chief of the Anti-Car Lifting Cell in replacement of Riaz.
