LAHORE – DCO Noorul Amin Mengal inaugurated a three-day polio awareness campaign at Town Hall. UNICEF staff, office bearers of rickshaw union, and other concerned officers were present.

The polio awareness campaign is carried out before the anti polio drive, which will start from July 16, 1.5 million children will be treated in this drive.

The DCO briefed media about polio awareness campaign and said that flexes and banners have been displayed behind 5000 rickshaws in the city with the main objective of create awareness among citizens regarding polio. He said our objective is to communicate our message to everyone.

The DCO said that a comprehensive awareness campaign regarding polio will start through media also.

He said that the objective of making Lahore polio free city will be achieved at any cost and no negligence will be tolerated, staff showing negligence will also be fired. He said that anti polio campaign will continue till July 18 and a special follow up anti polio campaign will be launched on July 19.

He added that we will take Ulemas on board so that they could impart the importance of eradicating polio and give a positive message to people regarding it through Mosques. The DCO said that an ‘Anti Polio Refusal Squad’ will be formulated at town level who will logically convince any parents who refuse to administer the drops these squads will consist on TMOs, DOs Health and other staff. EDO Health, DOC and other concerned officers were also present at the occasion.


Traffic problems:

DCO Noorul Amin Mengal said that traffic problems would be solved when the new bus terminal at Thokar Niaz Baig starts functioning. He said modern state of the art bus terminal facilities will be provided.

He expressed these views while presiding over a meeting at Town Hall with transporters of Band Road and Badami Bagh bus stands here on Tuesday. He said that Government is determined to make functional new bus stand soon but we are taking all stake holders and transporters on board and they should come up with viable suggestions.

The DCO said that LTC buses will ply from different routes to Thokar Niaz Baig’s so that the citizens could reach the terminal. In the meeting transporters gave various suggestions to the DCO about the new bus terminal.

He constituted a nine members committee which will prepare useful proposals. The committee will consist of transporters Rana Mudassar, Haji Khalid, Khawaja Javaid, Ch Majeed, Bao Asif and representatives of Abdullah Travels, Daewoo, Niazi Travels and Faisal Movers.

MNA Afzal Khokhar, MPA Saiful Malook Khokhar, Administrator Larri Adda and other concerned officers participated in the meeting.
