Islamabad - A local court of the federal capital on Wednesday sent 40 students of Federal Urdu University to Adiala Jail on 14 days judicial remand.

Federal capital police produced these arrested students before the court of judicial magistrate (West) Muhammad Naseer-ud-Din who sent them to Adiala Jail for 14 days on judicial remand. The magistrate had directed the police to produce again these arrested students before the court on June 24 for further proceedings in this connection.

Earlier, police had registered a case at Aabpara police station against some 70 students involved in firing incident in Federal Urdu University.

Then, the police conducted raids at university hostels and arrested as many as 40 students who were presented before a court for their remand.

Police had registered the case under sections of attempted murder, backing criminals, spreading fear, interference in government affairs and violation of Article 144.

Earlier, Aabpara police have booked an officer of Federal Urdu University of Arts, Science & Technology and scores of others in connection with firing incident at the university a day earlier. According to the FIR registered at the police station, Shah G Mohammad, director security of the university, lodged the report that Dr Zafar Iqbal, a university officer, and others incited two students groups — Siraiki and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa — to clash which resulted into injuries to many students and a passerby. Police have also booked some 70 students for damaging university’s property. The accused have been booked under sections 324, 109, 344, 427, 353, 186, 337, 148, and 149 of the PPC. Meanwhile, Tarnol police have recovered a dead body of an unknown person near Doray village. He was killed by some sharp-edged weapon. Police have registered a case under section 302 of the PPC against unknown persons. Khanna police have arrested a Somali national under 14-Foreigners Act as he had no valid documents for his entry and stay in Pakistan. Jamal was arrested from Khanna service road.
