Rawalpindi -  A murder convict was sent to gallows here at Adaila Jail on Wednesday.

With the hanging of the murder convict, the tally of those hanged in Adaila Jail reached 12 since the Prime Minister of Pakistan Mian Nawaz Sharif has lifted ban over capital punishment after a terrorist attack on a school in Peshawar.

According to details, the Adaila Jail authorities hanged a murder convict Liaqaut at 4:30am. After the hanging, the jail authorities handed over the dead body to the heirs for burial. Earlier, a last meeting of family was held with Liaquat by the jail authorities. Tight security arrangements were put in place inside and outside the Adaila Jail at the time of capital punishment to a murder convict.

In 1996, Sihala Police held Liaquat in connection with a murder case and a court of law awarded him death penalty after declaring him guilty. The apex court and President of Pakistan rejected the appeals of the convict.
