LAHORE - Pakistan No 1 tennis player Aqeel Khan, M Abid and Yasir Khan won their respective quarter-finals of the 1st SNGPL All Pakistan Men and Women Tennis Championship 2015 played here at the Cosmopolitan Club Wednesday.

In the men’s singles first quarter-final, Pakistan No 1 tennis player Aqeel Khan defeated high-spirited Heera Khan 7-5, 7-6(4) after a hard-fought battle. The first set saw Heera giving tough time to Aqeel, who later showed his class and won the set 7-5. The second set saw comparatively more aggressiveness and tough battle as Aqeel struggled hard to beat Heera in the tie break which Aqeel won by 7-6(4). The second quarter-final saw M Abid edging out Munir Ashiq 6-2, 6-0. Yasir Khan routed Ahmed Babar 6-3, 6-2 in the third quarterfinal while Shahzad Khan defeated Usman Rafique 6-3, 6-3 in the fourth and last quarterfinal of the day.

In the men’s doubles semi-finals, Yasir Khan and Shahzad Khan outclassed Muzamil Murtaza and Mudasar 6-1, 6-4 while Aqeel Khan and Heera Ashiq beat Ahmad Babar and Faizan Khurram 6-4, 6-4. In the women’s singles semi-finals, Noor Malik thrashed Rimsha Nawaz 6-0, 6-2 while Khusna Babar beat Esha Jawad 6-3, 3-6, 6-1.

In the boys’ U-14 semi-finals, Huzafa Abdul Rehman thumped Aqib Umer 6-2, 6-3 and Nauman Aftab outlasted Shoaib Khan 6-3, 6-3. In the boys U-18 semi-finals, Muzamal Murtaza beat Harris Irfanul Haq 7-6(4), 7-6(2) and Abdul Haider beat Yousaf Khan 6-1, 0-6, 6-2.
