ISLAMABAD - Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs of Germany Stephan Steinlein Wednesday appreciated Pakistan's constructive role in Afghanistan and regional stability and development.

He made these remarks in meeting with Advisor on National security and Foreign Affairs Sartaj Aziz at the Minister of Foreign Affairs. German Minister is leading a 13-member strong business delegation.

Sartaj Aziz highlighted Pakistan's investment potential and the prime minister's emphasis on trade and not aid.

He stressed that Pakistan was an investment-friendly country and provided business opportunities to foreign investors in diverse areas of economy. Energy, especially renewable energy can be an area of special interest to German investors.

The adviser also highlighted Pakistan's efforts to fight terrorism and extremism. He reiterated Pakistan's firm commitment to take forward the process of constructive engagement with Afghanistan and highlighted prime minister's vision of a peaceful neighbourhood.

Steinlein stated that Pakistan was an important country for Germany and it was desire of the German leadership to enhance its relations with Pakistan. The German delegation looked forward to positive engagement with their Pakistani counterparts for enhancing trade between the two countries.

He also appreciated Pakistan's constructive role in Afghanistan and the vision of the Pakistani leadership for regional stability and economic development.

Meanwhile, the German delegation also called Syed Tariq Fatemi, Special Assistant to the Prime Minister on Foreign Affairs and discussed matters of common interest.

Stressing that Pakistan greatly valued its relations with Germany, Fatemi briefed the visiting dignitary on prime minister's vision of a peaceful neighbourhood and highlighted efforts undertaken by the government to eradicate the menace of terrorism and extremism. Global and regional issues were also discussed.

Syed Tariq Fatemi also stated that Pakistan was an investment-friendly country, which provided opportunities for foreign investors in diverse areas of economy. He urged the visiting dignitary to encourage the German entrepreneurs to invest in Pakistan.

Steinlein stated that Germany considered Pakistan an important country and greatly appreciated Pakistan's fight against terrorism and extremism. He stated that Germany looked forward to strengthening its ties with Pakistan in all spheres and the German Business delegation, which he is heading, is positively engaging with its Pakistani counterparts.
