The Multan Electric Power Company (Mepco) has closed its Customer Service Centre (CSC) for circle Rahim Yar Khan at Mepco Complex which was inaugurated by its chief executive officer in 2014.

The construction of the building and provision of the equipments for the CSC were ensured last year at a cost of Rs4.5 million and it was announced that CSC will work round the clock for the thousands of Mepco customers of the whole district to facilitate them regarding applications of new meters, complaints of sticky meters, over billing and over reading.

There were approved posts of SDO, senior clerk, subdivisional clerk, computer operator, peon and a guard who worked in three shifts of eight hour each. There are four divisions and 18 sub divisions including 5 in Rahim Yar Khan, 5 in Khanpur, 4 in Sadiqabad and 4 in Liaquatpur in Mepco Rahim Yar Khan circle. In the start there were only two linemen performed their duties despite the actual staff and they receive approximately 60 to 110 complaints daily but after few months this CSC was closed suddenly.

According to some Mepco sources, the CSC was closed because its closure was in the interest of most officers who did not want to facilitate the customers. Another reason of its closure is the lack of staff. A customer, Muhammad Talat, said that when he went to SDO office for his complaint of over reading, the staff of the subdivision not treated him properly. When contacted, SE Mepco Wakeel Ahmed Nadir did not reply the repeated calls however another officer not to be named told that CSC had been closed due to some undisclosed reasons.

Meanwhile, the customers are facing hardships regarding their complaints.
