In order to bring down prices of the locally-assembled cars, the government is reportedly considering import of the cars used for over 10 years. This looks pretty ludicrous unless the government also intends to import wide, metalled roads, overhead bridges and spacious parking places to supplement the existing (insufficient) ones all around the country. With out these latter 'imports', the menace of nerve-wracking traffic jams, life-threatening pollution and wastage of a lot of time and fuel that is routinely consumed during our daily driving ordeals would continue to be the blight of our lives. To ensure that these 'imported facilities' do not break down prematurely like our own will then be the next challenge for which the government will have to arrange for maintenance engineers from abroad. -FAROOQ ZAMAN, Lahore, May 9.
