LAHORE - Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif has said that corruption and wastage of development funds has now come to an end, and all resources are being utilised for the welfare of the masses in a transparent manner. Addressing a high-level meeting held to review development projects being executed in the province, here on Monday, he said that corruption-free culture had been promoted in the province, and every penny of public money was being utilised only for raising the living standard of the people. Chief Secretary Punjab, Chairman Planning & Development, secretaries of Finance, Housing, Livestock, Director General Lahore Development Authority and District Coordination Officer Lahore besides other officers concerned were also present on the occasion. The CM said that billions of rupees were being spent on the projects aimed at provision of basic amenities to the masses, and a comprehensive strategy had been adopted for the completion of development projects within time frame as well as utilisation of funds in a transparent manner. He said that third-party audit system was being strictly implemented in the execution of all major development projects. He said that solid measures had been taken for the promotion of corruption-free culture due to which all development projects were of the highest standard and could be compared with those of developed countries. He said that Lahore Ring Road Package 6, 7 & 8 had been completed in record period of time while work was in progress expeditiously on the remaining packages. He said that Shalimar Interchange, Sagian Interchange, Madre-Millat and Shaukat Ali Road projects were also of the highest standard and had resulted in streamlining the flow of traffic for the benefit of the people. Shahbaz said that measures were also being taken for the uplift of less-developed areas, and development projects were being executed in these areas on priority basis. He said that additional funds were of vital importance for development projects so that uplift schemes could be completed expeditiously for raising the living standard of the people. He said that a highly transparent policy had been adopted for the generation of additional resources. The CM issued instructions for setting up a special committee to be headed by the Chief Secretary for reviewing the briefing given by the foreign consultants for the development of various spots in Lahore and provision of high standard recreational facilities to the masses. The committee will submit its recommendations within two weeks.
