Gunmen stormed the emergency department of the Jinnah hospital on Friday evening, shot dead their opponent when he was under intensive care and, police and eyewitnesses said.

Kashif Shah was admitted to the hospital with multiple bullet injuries he sustained during crossfire with his rivals in the Thokar Niaz Baig area. Zulifqar Awan was gunned down when both the groups exchanged gunfire over property dispute in Hanjarwal police precincts. The police have removed the dead bodies to the morgue for autopsy and are investigating.

Investigators said that Kashif Shah had an enmity with Zulifqar Awan over property dispute. On the day of incident, armed men from both the groups exchanged gunfire as they came face to face. As a result, Zulifqar Awan died on the spot while Kashif Shah was rushed to the hospital with serious bullet wounds.

Interestingly, the policemen deployed outside the emergency department of the hospital managed to escape from the scene as the gunmen forced their entry into the ward and opened fire on the patient, creating worst type of panic and fear among the patients and the hospital staff. The assailants also fired several warning shots as they tried to flee from the crime scene after ensuring on-the-spot.

Meanwhile, doctors and hospital staff closed down the emergency ward to protest against the brazen gun assault and staged a protest demonstration against the police, demanding the government to provide foolproof security to the hospitals. The police have registered the case and are investigating with no arrest made yet.–Staff Reporter
