The US Consul General, Ms Nina Maria Fite, called on Punjab Governor Makhdum Syed Ahmad Mahmud at Makhdum House on Friday. During the meetign, they discussed the issues of law and order as well as the holding of the general elections.

The governor said the government was a firm believer in democracy and the empowerment of its people. He briefed about the steps taken by the government to ensure free and fair elections in the country.

He further emphasised that we needed to obliterate mismanagement and corruption from this country in order to advance towards national prosperity and we are fully determined in this cause.

Maria Fite said her country supported continuity of democratic process in Pakistan and it would continue its cooperation with the new government irrespective of the fact which party forms the same.

She said America wants to see Pakistan a progressive and economically stable country.–Staff Reporter
