KARACHI Favourite New Zealand and challengers China remained unbeaten in the league round of the six nation mens World Hockey Cup qualifiers on Tuesday in Invarcargill, New Zealand, according to information received here. In the third of the five league round competition which will throw up one qualifier for the main round at New Delhi next year, New Zealand, ranked 8th in the world, defeated 16th ranked Malaysia 4-2 after leading 2-1 at half time. 13th ranked China beat 29th ranked Wales 2-1. In the previous two rounds, New Zealand beat Wales 6-2 in first round and whipped Scotland 8-0 in the second. China beat Scotland 2-1 in first round and in second beat Austria 2-1. The winner of the championship will clinch a berth in the title round in India. Pakistan has already booked a berth for New Delhi after winning the WC first qualifier in Lille, France, where they beat Japan 3-1 in the final. Third and the final WC qualifier will be played at Quilmes (Argentina) from November 14. Belgium (world ranked 9), Argentina (10), Ireland (18), USA (19), Czech Republic (25) and Chile (27th) will appear in the competition. Nine teams have already been given direct entry in the title round while three more will be added, one each from the WC qualifying rounds to the main draw. Teams that have been given direct entry in the championship are India ( host), Canada ( Pan American Champion), South Korea( Asian champion), South Africa( African Champion), Australia( Oceania Champion), England( Europe4an champion), Germany (silver medalist of European championship), Holland(Bronze medallist of European championship) and Spain (4th placed in European Champion).
