NEW DELHI Shujauddin Malik, who won a gold medal in weightlifting event in the last Commonwealth Games at Melbourne four years ago, bowed out from the New Delhi Games when he was injured during the heats of 94kg event here on Saturday night. Shujauddin Malik, who was involved in the flag event row at the opening ceremony of the Games here on October 4 afternoon, tore muscles and ligaments in one of his hands when he tried to lift more weight in the first round of the heat. Even his coach could not properly guide Shujauddin who made an inglorious exit from the Games where he was expected to successfully retain his crown. Chef-de-mission of the Pakistan contingent Dr MA Shah, a reputed orthopedic surgeon, personally examined the athlete who was also given medical attention at the games village. Shujauddin Malik and his coach had raised slogans against the chef-de-mission who carried the flag during the opening ceremonies. According to reliable information, some wrestlers had also joined in slogan raising which attracted the attention of the volunteers of the Games who knew the language in which the slogans were being raised. Some of the foreign contingent who were lined up with Pakistan contingent into the stadium looked amused when they heard slogans.
