LAHORE - City police have been put on high alert and not less than 13,000 police personnel have been deployed in the Punjab Capital to cope with any untoward incident during the Eid holidays besides ensuring their round-the-clock patrolling. Police sources said that all officers had been directed to beef up security and intensify round-the-clock patrolling by armed contingents of police to ensure a peaceful atmosphere during Eidul Fitr holidays. The programme has also included additional deployment of police force at all sensitive areas and mosques and Eidgah especially at important shopping plazas and commercial markets to avert any untoward incident. They further said that the DIG, Additional SPs, SDPOs and SHOs had also been directed to conduct series of surprise visits to different areas and personally monitor the performance of their subordinates, otherwise, SDPO and SHO concerned would be responsible for any negligence. The top cops would also conduct surprise visits to various police stations and negligent police staff would be placed under suspension, sources added. Over 350 well equipped squads of Elite Force Commandoes with sophisticated weapons in addition to heavy contingents of police have been deployed on patrolling to maintain law and order situation in the provincial metropolis. They said that foolproof measures have also been taken to seal and cordon off the entire city in case of any incident. The mobile teams of police force would also continue to carry out round the clock patrolling in their respective jurisdictions.
