PESHAWAR/ISLAMABAD/ KARACHI - Awami National Party (ANP) has urged the Supreme Court to ban Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) and demanded the government to form a judicial commission to investigate funding to political parties by the foreign countries. Addressing a crowded press conference here at Peshawar Press Club on Saturday, ANP Provincial President Senator Afrasiab Khattak rejected all the allegations of MQM chief Altaf Hussain and termed them a filthy conspiracy to blackmail peaceful Pakhtuns and their leadership. Provincial Information Minister Mian Iftikhar Hussain and other ANP stalwarts were also present on the occasion. Afrasiab claimed that intelligence agencies including MI, ISI, IB, FIA, Special Branch and CID had all relevant proofs of MQMs atrocities and Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry must ban this 'terrorist organisation. He also appealed to British government to annul the citizenship of Altaf who was distorting facts and issuing derogatory statements from London to increase chaos in Pakistan. The ANP leader said that every Pakistani knows who was behind the killing of innocent people on May 12, 2007 and who placed the containers to block the convoy of the chief justice that day. He added when Altaf started press conference, he made it clear that he was blaming ANP and other political parties without any solid evidence and he also remarked that had he was not been a leader of MQM, he would have started killing several important personalities in Karachi. The terrorist designs of the MQM chief were listened to by the nation so now the masses can better understand who are the killers and terrorists in the port city of Karachi. If Altaf was true and sincere, he would have responded to the allegations levelled by Zulfiqar Mirza, he said adding that Altaf instead of serving the people of Karachi was sending gifts of sack-packed bodies to the people of this city. If Altaf Hussain is a fair politician and patriotic man, why he has shifted all of his assets to United Kingdom and other countries, and has adopted British citizenship, Afrasiab remarked. He maintained when Awami National Party implemented Nizam-e-Adl Regulation in Malakand division, the reaction from the United States and MQM was same, which showed that Altaf was fulfilling foreign agenda. To a question regarding the alliance of ANP with MQM in Karachi, Afrasiab said that they made alliance with Pakistan People Party and not with MQM. He made it clear that ANP was not against any nationality but wanted due respect of all the citizens living in Karachi. He claimed that Altaf always considered ANP as a rival party and brutally killed thousand of its innocent workers. Earlier on Saturday, the ANP spokesman Senator Zahid Khan demanded a judicial commission for investigating the funding to political parties from foreign sources, declaring that the purpose of Altaf Hussains speech the other day was to pressurise the judiciary and the army. Talking to media persons outside the Parliament House, he said the press conference of MQM leader was aimed at pressurising the judiciary and the army and Altaf repeatedly reminded the chief justice that he was among those judges who took oath under the PCO. He requested the Supreme Court to take suo moto notice of the May 12 incident. He said Wasim Akhtar who was then interior minister of Sindh had given a statement for placing containers on roads on 12th of May to stop the supporters of the chief justice from taking out the procession in his favour. He said the Supreme Court should take notice of the May 12 incident and the culprits must be punished. The spokesman demanded the government form a judicial commission to investigate the funding received by political parties from foreign countries. He also urged the Ulema and Mashaikhs to take notice of whatever the MQM chief stated in his press conference about the Holy Quran and issue religious decrees accordingly. Zahid Khan said that Altaf Hussain was staying in one of the countries whose names have been referred by him for conspiring to dismember Pakistan. He said if Altaf Hussain has the courage, he should throw the nationality and passport of that country and return to Pakistan. He asked the MQM chief to return to Pakistan if he has any love for the country and fight those who, in his view, are conspiring to dismember it. Zahid Khan said the ANP does not need any certificate from Altaf Hussain and if anybody has proof against it, he can go the courts. He said on the one hand the Altaf levelled allegations against the Asfandyar Wali of receiving millions of dollars from the US while on the other he himself admitted he has no proof of that. He demanded the government to form a judicial commission to expose those receiving funds from foreign countries. Senator Zahid expressed his surprise over the behaviour of the electronic media, saying that it carried live the press conference of Altaf Hussain for three and a half hours uninterrupted whereas in their normal transmission the TV channels go for break after every five minutes. Zahid Khan said no sensible person can imagine what Altaf Hussain wanted to convey in his press conference. The ANP spokesman said for some time now the situation in the country has been heightened, particularly after the press conference by former Sindh Home Minister Dr Zulfiqar Mirza. He said none of the MQM leaders has responded to the allegations levelled by Zulfiqar Mirza. He said the attention of the media is on Karachi because it is a commercial hub of the country and everyone wants restoration of peace there. He said the situation is gradually improving in Karachi because the chief justice has taken notice of the target killing there. He said the Rangers must continue their operation in Karachi. To a question, Zahid Khan said they have an alliance with the PPP and it does not make any difference if any one joins in or goes out. Meanwhile, ANP Sindh President Shahi Syed on Saturday also rejected the allegations by Altaf Hussain against his party for May12 incident and accused that it was Muttahida workers who had opened fire on the rally which was taken out to welcome the chief justice, who had arrived in the city that day. Addressing a press conference at Mardan House on Saturday the ANP leader urged the chief justice to extend the scope of suo moto notice to May 12 incident to expose the real culprits and to provide justice to all those martyred who fell victims to terrorists bullets that ill fated day. Shahi Syed accused that Altaf Hussain was involved in the killing of Dr Imran Farooq but added that he had no evidence with him to support his allegations, however, those foreign agencies who were involved in conspiracies against integrity of Pakistan may have the evidence in that regard. Former Sindh Home Minister Dr Zulfiqar Mirza had already has given evidence of MQMs involvement in anti-state activities and killing of Pakhtoons in Karachi but all these allegations were not addressed in the three press conferences that the MQM leaders had held in the recent days. This convinced us that Altaf Hussain was directly involved in the killings of hundreds of Pakhtoons in Karachi, he charged. The ANP leader termed the allegation levelled by MQM that all seven persons who died in mini bus inferno on August 12 at Keamari were Urdu speaking as a big lie and said that two of them were ANP people, one was Punjabi and remaining three belonged to Kutchhi community. ANP, he said, believed in the philosophy of non-violence and was cooperating with the law enforcing agencies for the restoration of peace in the city. Syed Shahi said that Altaf Hessians press conference was held to influence the on-going surgical operation by the law enforcers and the outcome of the suo moto action taken by the Supreme Court on Karachi target killings. He said the reason behind MQMs allegations against ANP was the proofs that the ANP counsel had laid before the Supreme Court against MQMs involvement in the killings. These proofs which were kept hidden so far were made public by the ANP lawyer. He accused the MQM of trying to blackmail the Supreme Court, parliament and the armed forces of Pakistan through its arguments in order to support and patronise the culprits involved in the blood shed in Karachi. He said instead of playing politics on dead bodies the MQM should respond the accusations that were levelled by former Sindh Home Minister Dr Zulfiqar Mirza. Shahi Syed said that MQM wanted to escape from all those allegations that Dr Zulfiqar Mirza had levelled against the party by not replying to those allegations. ANP was convinced that there was no war between Pakhtoons, Punjabi, Sindhi Balochis and Urdu speaking people but its a war against MQMs terror killing of innocent citizens speaking all languages in the city, he added.
