PESHAWAR - Relatives of the missing persons belonging to Swat on Thursday staged a protest demonstration and sit-in here at the main Sher Shah Suri Road outside press club, demanding safe and early recovery of their loved ones.

The protesters mostly women were carrying portraits of their loved ones and banners inscribed with slogans seeking justice from Chief Justice Supreme Court Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry and to take suo motu notice of a large number of missing people from Swat.  The protestors led by Jan Saba along with dozens of women from Kanju, Aligram, Dari, Khoz and Bar Bandan, and Damkhair areas of Swat.

While talking to the media, Saba alleged that security forces had picked up their children and relatives without any criminal charges against them.

She said that the families of the missing persons have been facing distressful situation for the last several years.

She also condemned the security forces for unnecessary raids on their houses and allegedly picking people and torching them in public. All the arrested people should try under law, if they were found guilty for any criminal charges.

One Shahi Dilara said that her two sons and a brother have been missing for the last one-year and police don’t tell anything about their whereabouts. “We are patriotic citizen and have equal rights to live and torturing us without any reason is beyond understanding,” she maintained.

She demanded of the incumbent government and the apex court to take notice of the hundreds of missing persons from Swat and ensure their safe and early recovery.
