LAHORE The annual sports day of Fountain House was held here at the facilities play area on Wednesday. The sports of the institute also coincided with the 10th death anniversary of the founder of Fountain House Prof Dr Muhammad Rasheed. Chief guest Qasim Zia did not appear to encourage the special people of the House but Ms Ayesha Javed (MPA) was the chief guest and pleaded for quality time for the people of the House. Javed Mansoor, a rehab member of the institute, entertained the audience in the function with his melodious songs. During the day cricket, hockey, squash, badminton, table tennis and swimming competitions were organised and the participants were awarded with prizes and certificates. In a race of special persons, Tayyab Ahmed stood first while Usman Rashid and Munir Rashid stood jointly second. Apart from MPA Ms Ayesha Javed, Haji Inam, Prof Dr Haroon Rashid, Ghiasuddin, Maj Bashir, Dr Naila Shafiq, MM Khan, Prof Dr Nazifa Usman, national badminton champion Wajid Ali were also present on among the guests. Former manager and coach of Jansher Khan, Farooq Butt presented the racquet of squash player Aamer Atlas Khan to the organisers of the Fountain House for auction. Aamer defeated the world number one squash player recently with this racquet during the Qatar Open. The organisers hoped to auction the racquet for half a million rupees as they did with the bat given to them by a test cricketer. Dr Haroon in his speech introduced the Drugs Rehabilitation Centre, completion of Fountain House stationary shop, construction of new residential unit at Farooqabad and a family unit at the Lower Mall premises and also the construction of female drug rehab unit. He also appealed for donation not only for the construction of these centres but also for the flood affected people. He also announced Rs 100,000 from the Fountain House funds for the floods affectees. In the end prizes and certificates were distributed among the winners and participants of different events.
