OUR STAFF REPORTER ISLAMABAD - Senior Federal Minister for Industries Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi Monday directed the officials of the Ministry and Utility Stores Corporation (USC) to extend subsidy on maximum items of basic necessity so that low-income people can be given relief in the Holy month of Ramazan. He said this while chairing a meeting regarding the Ramazan Package. President Pakistan Muslim League Senator Chaudhry Shujat Hussain and Advisor to Prime Minister on Industries Raja Basharat also attended the briefing. It is worth-mentioning here that government would announce Ramazan Package in the last week of current month (July). Elahi said the demand for essential commodities like wheat flour, sugar, pulses, baisen, dates (khajoor), tea, squashes, syrups (sharbat) and milk generally increase during the holy month of Ramazan each year but the Ramazan Relief Package will provide not only the much needed economic relief to the consumers but at the same time it will help to stabilise prices in open market. The Senior Minister directed the USC management to make sure that during Ramazan its stores stay open for shopping for extended hours so that more and more people may reap the benefits of the Ramazan Package. He said that to see the preparedness of the USC he will soon meet the zonal managers of USC and will not tolerate any negligence in efficiently conducting the operations during Ramazan.
