OUR STAFF REPORTER LAHORE - Prime Minister Yusuf Raza Gilani on Monday received his English teacher, Prof RA Khan at his DHA residence, as both took a trip down the memory lane with latter recalling that his student was a quite but well-dressed student. The PM received his teacher and his family at the main gate of his house and inquired about his health and well-being. Prof RA Khan, who taught English to Yusuf Raza Gilani in 1974 at Government College Lahore, was delighted to see his old student and said, What I remember of him is that he was a quiet student who was focused on his studies, and used to dress well and was very friendly with his class mates. Prof Khan said that it was a matter of great pride for him that one of his students had now become the chief executive of the country. While mentioning about the Character Certificate given to him by Prof RA Khan in his own hand-writing, Gilani said that the document was his precious asset. The Premier recalled the exact words written by his teacher that he was a good organizer and worked in a systematic manner. The PM announced Rs1 million as special assistance for Prof Khan and his family. It may be mentioned here that Prof Khan migrated from Mumbai to Pakistan in 1947 to join Government College Lahore as a student when Ahmad Shah Bokhari (Pitras Bokhari) was the GC principal. Later, he joined Government College as an English lecturer in 1958, and retired in 1991. He is now 81, has a wife and two children (a son and a daughter). Speaking on the occasion, Gilani said that teachers were the architects of future generation and had a great responsibility towards the character building of students. He said that the country could cope with challenges successfully if its future leaders were fully equipped and motivated to take on them with a mindset of winning determination. The premier said the present government had significantly been focused while framing the educational policy, which would not only provide incentives to teachers but also help improve this sacred profession.
