OUR STAFF REPORTER LAHORE The Punjab Netball Association held a reception in honour of the Punjab netball boys team which won the bronze medal in the National Netball Championship at Peshawar last month after a gap of 10 years. President Punjab Netball Association Syed Shaharyar Ali along with Secretary Association Ch M Rizwan graced the occasion. Punjab team participated in the 10th National Netball Championship and faced giant teams like Army, Wapda, Police and PAF. They played four pool matches winning three of them and qualified for the semi-final which they lost against Army by just one point. They played third position match against Sindh and won by 34-30. Syed Shaharyar Ali awarded cash prizes to the best performers of the event and distributed prizes among the team members and coaching staff and hailed the Punjab team for their brilliant performance. He said: I will try my best to include the netball event in the upcoming National Games in both mens and womens categories which will be held here in the city next year. Punjab Netball Association is hosting the 10th National Netball Girls Championship in Oct-Nov 2011 at Lahore, he added. Secretary Punjab Netball said he demanded of the president of the association to provide financial assistance to Punjab team that enable the team to visit Indian Punjab to play a series. The president announced that the Punjab team would visit to Indian Punjab for netball series soon.
