ISLAMABAD - The farmers across the country seem concerned over the imposition of tax on agricultural inputs as the tax would increase the cost of production and in the present condition where the government seems not helping them they are afraid of coming times. Certain quarters in official side believe that the government should have imposed agriculture tax than putting it on agricultural inputs. But the government on the other side has slipped away from the matter saying that it is provincial matter not the federal. But it is pertinent to mention here that the government before advent of budget looked imposing agriculture tax but in the end couldnt do so. International Monetary Fund also had been urging government to do so to decrease budgetary deficit. That could exempt the small farmers by imposing tax on big farmers having large lands. But imposing tax on inputs leaves nobody free of burden. Small farmers specially are concerned that they would be the ultimate sufferers.
