LAHORE - Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif has said that state-of-the-art transplant centre would be set up in the provincial metropolis and not only people of the province but throughout the country will benefit from it. He also constituted a steering committee headed by him which will take measures for early completion of the project. He was presiding over a high level meeting to review the progress of health projects in Lahore and other parts of the province, here on Monday. Chairman Planning & Development, Secretaries Health and Finance also attended the meeting. Addressing the meeting, Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif said that provision of quality medical facilities to the masses is one of the priorities of the government and solid steps have been taken for improvement of this sector. He directed that a mega plan of health be prepared for Lahore and this plan should also be implemented in other districts of the province so that provision of basic medical facilities to the masses could be ensured at all cost. He said that mobile health units have been imported for provision of modern medical facilities to the people of far flung areas of the province and six mobile units have also started working in backward areas. He disclosed that 50 mobile health units are being imported this year and these units would be provided in every tehsil. He said that the company providing these mobile health units will be responsible for their maintenance. He directed that third party audit should also be got conducted for reviewing the performance of these mobile units. He directed to start the project of construction of hospital consisting of 300 beds in Shahdara at the earliest and added that best design be selected for this project. He disclosed that Said Mitha hospital has been completed and will be inaugurated within next few days. He directed to fill in all vacancies of doctors and paramedical staff in this hospital and added that cleanliness system of this hospital be outsourced and a comprehensive strategy be evolved in this regard. He also directed early starting of work on the project of a hospital consisting of 40 beds in Lal Quarter Saman Abad, provision of CT scan in Said Mitha Hospital and MRI machine in Mian Nawaz Sharif Hospital Yakki Gate. He said that such a system be evolved in the hospitals under which companies providing these modern machines should be responsible for their functioning so that the trend of making these machines out of order with the connivance be eliminated in the hospitals. He also directed to release funds for Mian Mir Hospital and complete this hospital within next two to three months. He directed to upgrade Mazang Hospital to 50 beds and state of the art mother and child healthcare facilities be provided in this hospital. He disclosed that prime location has been selected for transplant centre and facilities of transplantation of kidney and liver would be available to the masses in this centre.He said that four medical colleges are being set up this year in the province and these projects would also be completed speedily. He directed Secretary Health to arrange a briefing at the earliest with regard to health policy and priorities regarding provision of medical facilities to the masses throughout the province. Earlier, Secretary Health Jehanzeb Khan gave a detailed briefing regarding improvement of health sector, import of mobile health units and various health projects in Lahore.
