ISLAMABAD - Israr Ahmed, Asim Khan, Abbas Shoukat, Ahsan Ayaz, Zeeshan Khan and Tayyab Aslam were shortlisted for World Junior Individual Squash Championship 2015 after trial matches concluded here at Mushaf Mir Squash Complex Thursday.

Five out of seven players had to be selected for the mega event starting from July 25 to 31 in Netherlands but the four-member selection committee retained Tayyab Aslam also in the squad, despite playing not a single trial match.

When contacted PSF secretary Group Captain Amir Nawaz to seek his views about Tayyab’s selection, he replied: “We have not given exemption to Tayyab. The matter of the fact is that selection committee, keeping in mind there is still more than a month left in the world juniors, decided to give him chance to regain fitness. He will definitely play matches against all the shortlisted players once he gets fit.

In the first match of the last day of trial matches, Israr Ahmed beat Ahsan Ayaz 3-2. In the second match, Abbas Shoukat was awarded walk over against Kashif Asif, while in the third and last match of the day, Asim Khan survived close scare before beating Zeeshan Khan 3-1 in 57 minutes of highly entertaining encounter.
