Federal Minister for Water and Power, Raja Pervez Ashraf has said that the present democratic government is fully determined to provide cheap energy to the consumers by taking bold steps to bring more hydel power and to mobilize other alternative energy resources including wind power in the country. He said that on the directive of the Prime Minister, a great initiative was taken for which Hydel was a prime focus of the government to produce cheap energy through indigenous resources. He said this while talking to the media men after signing ceremony of Keyal Khwar Hydropower Project between WAPDA and Consultant of the Project here on Wednesday. The installed capacity of the project is 122MW to be constructed with assistance of German Firm M/S Lahmeyer on estimated cost of 180 million Euros in the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa on Keyal Khwar in District Kohistan. The project will be completed in 2016. The Minister apprised the media that land has been acquired for Diamer-Basha Dam with good wishes of the people of the area and process of mobilization of land acquisition would be started in July this year. He was of the view that this was the prime initiative of the Prime Minister to resolve the long awaited issue of land acquisition for construction of 12.5 billion dollar dam which would produce 4500 MW power, he added. The Minister also informed the media that the government has tackled the energy crises prudently by adopting energy conservation drive which minimize the load shedding in the country. He said that now the unscheduled Load Shedding has been stopped, adding that the situation has been improved enabling the govt to cut duration of load shedding as well as full supply to the industries have been restored. He appreciated the role of traders, media and every walk of life for extending their support in launching energy conservation plan successfully, he concluded.
