ISLAMABAD - Federal Minister for Industries and Production, Mir Hazar Khan Bijarani, on Tuesday directed the Engineering Development Board (EDB) to compile and reconcile the proposals with the car manufacturers to know how the Government could provide some relief to public without damaging the auto industry. Federal Minister held a meeting with the car manufacturers in the light of the Economic Coordination Committee (ECC) decision regarding rationalisation of cars prices. The car manufacturers apprised the Minister about the various socio-economic problems confronted by the Auto industry. The most serious and severe among those are rupee depreciation, non-availability of bank financing and latest technology for manufacturing high-tech parts of cars at domestic level, law and order situation of the country and on going electricity loadshedding. The Auto Industry has financially suffered a lot due to aforementioned problems, the delegation added. They requested the Minister for an urgent help and support of the government to Auto Industry for its survival, otherwise hundreds might lose jobs with the closure of Auto Companies. However the car manufacturers assured that if the government reduces any kind of duty/tariff on import of auto parts, they would definitely pass on this relief to consumers. The Minister directed the EDB to prepare a comprehensive and practicable proposal and furnish to Ministry for onward submission to ECC for final decision and approval that how the government can provide some relief to public without damaging the Auto Industry, the Minister added. The Minister assured the car manufacturers that the government would fully support the Auto Industry for its survival and help for the redressal of the problems of the Auto Industry. The Auto Industry is playing a major role in the economic growth of the country.
