LAHORE - A petition has been moved in the Lahore High Court challenging appointment of National Bank of Pakistan President Syed Ali Raza. The petition has been filed by Umar Hayat Khawaja, a former employee of the national bank, stating that president of NBP can be appointed for 3 years only for two times while Syed Ali Raza is holding charge of the office for over six years. The petitioner said the government amended Finance Act 2007 to extend term of office of president of NBP for unlimited period, which is unlawful. The petitioner said only parliament has authority to extend the term for holding office of NBP president and the government did this by amending finance act unlawfully. He prayed that it being against banking laws may be set aside and respondent should be directed to leave the seat of president NBP.
