LAHORE: Hundreds of Christians from Ali Town yesterday staged a demonstration, demanding a proper place for cemetery.

A total of 300 families of the town near Raiwind Road have been using the neighbouring cemetery since long.  Four days ago, the situation turned embarrassing when Rasoolpura residents barred their neighbours from the burial of a youth because of limited space in the graveyard.

“Although the burial was allowed later, the Rasoolpura residents too have the problem, ”protester Salim Masih said.

He made a request to the government to look into the matter, saying: “We call upon the Auqaf Department secretary to get our longstanding problem solved.”

The protesting residents reminded local public reps of their pledges they made during the electioneering.

“Our MNA Afzal Khokhar and MPA Safulmalook Khokhar promised a graveyard for Ali Town during electioneering. But they did not keep their words after coming into power. We visit them repeatedly but to no avail,” the protesters recalled.–Staff Reporter
