LAHORE - Punjab Chief Minister Shehbaz Sharif has said positive results of economic policies of the government led by Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif are being witnessed.

“The World Bank and other international institutions are acknowledging speedy development and substantial decrease in poverty rate in the country,” he said while talking to his party lawmakers yesterday.

The CM said culture of transparency in development projects has been promoted during last three and a half years and all development projects in Punjab as well as other parts of the country are an example of speed and standard.

He said that billions of rupees have been saved by ensuring transparency in development projects, which is unprecedented in the 70 years’ history of Pakistan.

The CM said that generation of new job opportunities and poverty alleviation is the result of strong economy.

He said that Pakistan is moving towards economic self-reliance under the leadership of Prime Minister Muhammad Nawaz Sharif and the goal of national progress and prosperity will be achieved through hard work and commitment.

Meanwhile, Chief Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif presided over a meeting to review ongoing development projects.

Addressing the meeting, the CM said that work is being carried out speedily on development projects of billions of rupees in urban as well as rural areas of the Punjab. He said that progress and prosperity of the common man is the pivot of development policy of the government.

He said that benefits of development projects should reach the masses at any cost.

Shehbaz Sharif said that Punjab government has adopted the policy of third- party audit to ensure transparency and speed in development projects. He said that third party audit is essential for proper utilization of resources and monitoring of projects. Education Minister Rana Mashhood Ahmed, Hamza Shehbaz, and other senior officials attended the meeting.

Five development schemes approved

The Punjab Provincial Development Working Party approved five development schemes of various sectors with an estimated cost of Rs. 9396.38 million.

According to INP the schemes were approved in the 29th meeting of Provincial Development Working Party (PDWP) of current fiscal year 2016-17 presided over by the Punjab Chairman P&D Board Muhammad Jahanzeb Khan.

Secretary P&D Iftikhar Ali Sahoo, all Members of the Planning & Development Board, Provincial Secretaries concerned and other senior representatives of the relevant Provincial Departments also attended the meeting.   

According to Spokesman for P&DD, the approved development schemes included Remodeling and Extension of Tayyab Drain (Revised) at the cost of Rs. 1324.365 million, Feasibility Study for Construction of Kas Umar Khan Canal System (Detailed Engineering designs project preparation) PC-II at the cost of Rs. 122.687 million, Project Preparation of Punjab Irrigated Agriculture Investment Program (PC-II) (Revised) at the cost of Rs. 1221.000 million, Channelization of Deg Nullah (Land Acquisition Punjab Component) at the cost of Rs. 3442.854 million and Widening and Improvement of Main Road Sheikhupura at the cost of Rs. 3285.474 million.
