KARACHI - Law enforcement agencies claimed on Friday to have killed a militant and a robber in two encounters in different parts of the city.

Officials said that a suspected militant was killed during an exchange of fire with the police in Quetta Town, Sohrab Goth. They said that militants opened fire when the police conducted a raid on their hideout. They said that police retaliated and killed one of the militants.

They said that two accomplices of the dead militant fled the scene. They claimed to have recovered hand grenades and a pistol from him. They said the killed suspect was a member of the Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan. A case has been registered and further investigation is under way.

Separately, a suspected robber was killed and another arrested after an exchange of fire with the police near Chamra Chowrangi in Korangi.

The dead and the injured robbers were taken to Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre where the dead robber was identified as Abdul Rehman and the injured as Asif.

Police said the suspects were involved in street crimes and robberies and the encounter took place when a police team stopped them during a routine patrol. They opened fire at the police when they were signalled to stop. Police have registered a case.
