KARACHI - MQM chief Altaf Hussain on Thursday said that some elements were promoting sectarian hatred in clear violation of the teaching of the father of the nation, Quaid-e-Azam Mohammad Ali Jinnah. He asked his party workers to keep an eye on the activities of such elements. He said that every citizen of Pakistan has right to worship freely in his own way. He was addressing the general workers meeting of the party at Lal-Qila Ground Azizabad, which was also listened in 20 other zones in the province. Despite scorching weather in the metropolis, thousands of MQM workers gathered at the Lal-Qila Ground to listen the address of their party leader.   Altaf said that Quaid-e-Azam had always advocated equal rights for all citizens of Pakistan. He appealed the religious scholars, clerics and Mashaikh to play their active role in maintaining religious harmony and tolerance in the country. Altaf directed workers to refrain from indulging in sectarianism saying it was against their party manifesto. He strongly condemned hand grenade attack in Dir calling it a terrorist act. Altaf warned that ongoing sectarian clashes in Kurram Agency and D. I. Khan would spread all over the country if the government remained quiet and termed it a conspiracy to instigate sectarian riots.  He also condemned the killing of doctors and businessman on religious grounds. He said provocative faxes, handbills and text messages were being transmitted to stoke hatred among the citizens. Altaf reiterated that threat of Talibanisation was stalking the Sindh province especially Karachi and asked his workers to keep an eye on the activities of anti-social elements in their respective areas. He said that MQM had given Rs 1 million to the Prime Minister for the rehabilitation of displaced people of tribal areas.    Altaf expressed his concern over the sale of national assets in Sindh worth trillions of dollars including Qadirpur gas field, Jamshoro Power, Coal Reserve in Thar and others and termed this act as an organised conspiracy against the province. He said that people of Sindh have the right on these assets like those of Punjab, NWFP and Balochistan on the resources in their provinces.
