In a positive development, President Asif Ali Zardari has stated that he would be subservient to the Parliament. He has also stated that the Parliament has complete right to curtail powers of the President. Although this is not unexpected, the politics in Pakistan is usually played the other way around. The rise to power of any personality is combined with a new vision every step of the way. This is a good change that newly found power has not distorted the vision of our new President. He still talks about the same issues that were a part of his presidential campaign and have been adversely affecting the nation for long. This change shows clear contrast between people who forcefully manipulate their way to power and the people who are elected by the public. The manipulators lose their way in their quest for power and transgress from the system. That is why they are deemed dishonourable by the public. On the other hand, the elected ones stay on the straight and narrow to serve the public interest. We are hoping for great things from our newly elected President who has promised to keep the mission of Benazir Bhutto alive.-SALMA NAZEER, Lahore, September 11.
