LAHORE - Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif while presiding over a meeting on Saturday said that the protection of life and property of people is the foremost duty of the police, adding that the police should immediately arrest culprits involved in Ichhara incident. Provincial Minister Rana Sanaullah, MNA Pervaiz Malik, Khawaja Imran Nazir MPA, Chief Secretary, Inspector General Police, Secretary Home, Commissioner Lahore Division, CCPO Lahore, trader leaders and other senior officers attended the meeting.

The Chief Minister was briefed on the Ichhara incident and overall law and order situation in the province. A preliminary report of Ichhara incident was also presented to the CM.           Addressing the meeting, Shahbaz Sharif said that maintenance of law and order is the top priority of the government. He said that all possible steps should be taken for further improving law and order situation in the province and law enforcement agencies should work in coordination. The Chief Minister directed that latest technology should be available to trace out heinous crimes.

He said that billions of rupees have been provided to the police and more resources will also be provided in future. “However, police will have to come up to the expectations of the people and perform”, he added. Shahbaz Sharif said that huge resources have been provided for improving police performance and modern training has also been arranged for capacity building.

He said that a modern Command and Control Center is being set up in Lahore.
