SWAT - Gunmen killed Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Shangla in Mingora city’s Shahdara area on Tuesday.

According to details, DSP Muhammad Ilyas, a serving police officer at Shangla district, who was in Swat in connection with some official work, was on his way back to Shangla near Sabzi Mandi when armed men opened indiscriminate fire on his vehicle. The DSP sustained bullet injuries and killed on the spot. A constable was also injured in the attack.

The assailants managed a good escape after killing the police officer. The security forces and police rushed to the area and launched a search operation to apprehend the perpetrators. The dead and injured were shifted to the Saidu Sharif Teaching Hospital. A case was registered against unknown killers with the Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) Swat.

Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) spokesperson Muhammad Khurasani claimed responsibility for the attack in an-email sent to journalists but police and law enforcers are yet to identify the culprits.
