SIALKOT

A large number of candidates remained unable to apply for the posts of educators in Sialkot district due to delay in the results of the tests conducted by the National Testing Services (NTS) on March 18.

The affected candidates in Sialkot, Daska, Sambrial and Pasrur tehsils strongly protested against the NTS management for inordinate delay in the issuance of the NTS tests. April 12 was the last date for the submission of the applications to Sialkot Education Department in this regard.

The Education Department officials refused to collect the applications without NTS results on the last day for the submission of the applications.

Punjab Teachers’ Union (PTU) Central President Syed Sajjad Akbar Kazmi expressed grave concern over the poor performance of the National Testing Service (NTS), saying that the process of recruitment of 35,000 teachers across Punjab has been badly affected due to the inordinate delay in the issuance of the results of the tests.

They demanded the Sialkot district administration to extend the date of submission of the applications in the larger interest of teachers as well.

When contacted, District Monitoring Officer (DMO) M Aamir said that 1,075 educators including 89 assistant education officers (AEOs) would be recruited in Sialkot district.

He added that the final date for applications submission is likely to be extended. He said that the officials concerned have also been directed to collect the applications of the candidates without the NTS result cards. On the other hand, the local officials of NTS averted to comment on the matter.

PILFERERS HELD RED-HANDED: Gepco teams caught eight consumers as they were stealing electricity from the main lines in Gujranwala region.

According to Gepco officials, it has submitted applications for the registration of the separate cases with the local police stations against the accused namely Mushtaq, Arif, Shabir, Khursheed, Shaukat, Gulzar, Riasat and Irfan.

The officials added that the Gepco teams had caught red handed 15047 electricity pilferers while stealing electricity in Gujranwala Division during the last month, besides, detecting the massive electricity pilferage worth Rs61.4 million. The officials added that Gepco has recovered Rs42 million from the accused.

DRILL: The Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD), Rescue 1122 and police jointly conducted a mock anti-terrorism exercise at Lorry Adda. The main purpose of conducting the mock exercise was to assess the capabilities of the officials concerned to combat any untoward incident.

127 properties sealed, 90 vehicles impounded: Excise and Taxation Department’s recovery teams sealed 127 commercial and residential properties and impounded 90 vehicles for the non-payment of taxes in Gujranwala Division.

The operation is being carried out under the direct supervision of E&T Gujranwala Division Director Rao Shakeel Ur Rehman in Sialkot, Narowal, Gujrat, Mandi Bahaud Din, Hafizabad and Gujranwala districts.

The special recovery teams also created pickets at all the inner and outer points in the region and impounded 90 different luxury vehicles for prolonged non-payment of their token tax.

‘Govt going all out to end crises’: The government is fully aware of the problems of the business community and making efforts for early solution to the problems, said a PML-N lawmaker.

The business community always played a pivotal role in strengthening the national economy, MNA Armughan Subhani said while talking to a delegation of traders at his residence.

He added that the masses gave a huge mandate to the PML-N in 2013 general elections due to which it is pulling Pakistan out of darkness putting the country on the highway to development and stability.

He said that the clouds of uncertainty had become shattered due to effective and positive policies of the government. He said that the armed forces of Pakistan have also shattered the nexus of the terrorists during the ongoing successful operation Zarb-e-Azb in the country. He said that government was committed to weeding out terrorism from the country and the whole nation stands united with the armed forces against terrorism.

ARRANGEMENTS: Food Department Gujranwala Division Assistant Director Ch Salman visited wheat procurement centres set up in Narowal district for purchasing of wheat directly from the growers.

He reviewed the arrangements made at the centres for facilitating the local wheat growers in Narowal district. He said that the Food Department will purchase 41,000 metric tonne wheat at these centres during this season. He said that the official wheat procurement is likely to start till the next month.

TAX DAY MARKED: The Education Department took out a rally in Narowal city in connection with the Tax Day.

It began from Govt National Secondary School Narowal and ended at Chowk Jassar Narowal after marching on various city roads.

A large number of the people from all walks of life participated in the rally. They were carrying banners and placards, citing the importance of taxes.

DCO ASSUMES CHARGE: Newly appointed District Coordination Officer of Narowal Liaqat Ali Niswana assumed the charge of his office. Later, he held a meeting of the heads of district departments and reviewed the pace of development schemes in Narowal district.
