islamabad - Karachi Company police have arrested the alleged rapist of a disabled girl from Haripur, sources in police said yesterday.

The staffer at Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS) on Saturday night had allegedly raped a 22-year-old under-treatment disabled girl, lying on the bed of surgical Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of the hospital. The alleged rapist, male nurse Krishan Kumar had been at large since the matter came to the notice of the hospital high-ups. Karachi Company police on Monday last booked him under section 376 PPC and efforts were under way to arrest him.

The sources said that special investigation unit of Islamabad police arrested the accused.

Separately, the SIU arrested two activists of a banned outfit from the federal capital. The sources said that member of Hizb-ur-Tehreer Saad Khan is a resident of Abbottabad. The other arrested accused has been identified as Saifullah. Both the accused have been handed over to the Aabpara police.

Furthermore, Islamabad police have arrested a car-lifter, who was wanted in several auto-theft cases, after police encounter, a police spokesman said. He said that Special Investigation Unit (SIU) and Anti-Car Lifting Cell (ACLC) of Islamabad police were directed by SP (Investigation) Muhammad Ilyas to ensure arrests of those involved in car lifting incidents. One of the teams signalled to stop a car (MH-638) at police picket in Shamas police station area following which car occupants started firing at the policemen. Police team retaliated and managed to arrest one of the car occupants, Abdullah, resident of Tarnab, district Charsadda, while his two other accomplices managed to escape under the cover of firing.

During the preliminary investigation from the nabbed person, he told about the absconding persons as Qazi Samad Khan son of Qazi Ammadul Mallok, Faizur Rehman son of Pervez Khan, residents of Khan Kale Tehsil Mardan. The nabbed person confessed to take away four cars from areas of Loi Bher and Koral police station while nine cars were stolen by them from jurisdiction of New Town police station Rawalpindi. Police have started the efforts to arrest the absconding criminals.

Meanwhile, Shalimar police have busted a gang involved in looting valuables from the houses after getting jobs there as house servants, a police spokesman said. A specially-constituted team under supervision of DSP Ghulam Muhammad Baqir succeeded to arrest a house maid, her husband and another accomplice who used to loot houses after getting jobs there.

Police have obtained their remand from the concerned court while looted valuables worth Rs 4 million, gold ornaments have been recovered from them. They have been identified as Rubina Nadeem wife of Nadeem Sattar, Nadeem Sattar and his brother Shahid Sattar son of Sattar Muhammad Abbassi. During the preliminary investigation, they confessed to strike at House # 61, street 59, Sector F-10, as Rubina Sattar was working there as housemaid and her husband as cook. SSP Islamabad Sajid Kiani has appealed the citizens to ensure proper identification of persons being given jobs at their houses as servants or maids.
