ISLAMABAD - Federal Minister for Commerce Makhdoom Amin Fahim has invited the investors and businessmen of Virgin Island to explore trading and investment opportunities in Pakistan. According to a press statement, the Federal Minister met Virgin Islands Senates President, Senator Luis Patrick. Prominent investors and businessmen of Virgin Island also attended the meeting. Calling it a historic moment, the members of legislature assembly of the Virgin Island welcomed Fahim. Currently about 20pc of Pakistans exports go to the United States and as the global economy climbs out of the doldrums, Pakistan is aggressively looking to increase that percentage, Fahim said. He said while Pakistan was much larger than the territory, there were many similarities including coastal cities, hills and valleys, and warm friendly people. Those similarities might make it easier for the two peoples to do business, he added. Pakistans major exports to US are textiles, medical instruments and sport goods. The Virgin Islands could become a transshipment centre for those goods coming into the US. Furthermore some parts of surgical and sports goods could be manufactured in Pakistan and shipped to the territory where they would be assembled in light manufacturing plants and could then be exported to US.
