Islamabad -  The Anti-Narcotics Force (ANF) during action against drug mafia in Rawalpindi division has recovered 28.5 kilograms heroin and 10 kilograms hashish, besides arresting smugglers, informed ANF spokesman here on Friday.

He added that ANF also seized 3.45 tons of drugs in three other operations and held the smugglers including a foreigner, besides seizing three vehicles. The worth of recovered drug is Rs 3,780 million in the international market, he said.

The ANF also foiled a heroin smuggling bid at Benazir Bhutto Islamabad International Airport by detaining a Nigerian national Okoke Uchena Emmanuel and recovered 500 grams heroin from his possession. Heroin was concealed in his jacket. During investigation, he confessed of having 75 heroin filled capsules in his stomach. The accused was shifted to Benazir Bhutto Hospital for recovery of heroin capsules. ANF Rawalpindi acting upon a tip-off, conducted an operation near Ghausia Bus Stand, Pirwadhai Morr, and recovered 2-kg heroin from a drug smuggler namely Akbar Khan.

Similarly, ANF Rawalpindi arrested an accused Tahir Mehmood Butt near Sohawa and recovered 2-kg heroin from his possession.

According to him, ANF Rawalpindi acting upon a tip-off intercepted a car (LWN-0713) near Burhan Motorway Interchange and seized 24-kg heroin during search. He said that heroin was concealed in improvised cavities of the car. The heroin was being smuggled from Peshawar to Faisalabad, he said, adding that a smuggler namely Rahman-ud-Din of Peshawar was held on the spot.

He said that in another action, ANF stopped a suspected jeep (BB-7233-Peshawar) near Burhan Motorway Interchange and recovered 10-kg hashish from it. A drug smuggler Abdul Ghafar Khan was nabbed.

On the other hand, ANF in its war against drug mafia conducted three operations in Karachi and Qilla Abdullah. During operations, ANF recovered 3.391 tons of hashish and 20-kg heroin.
