Islamabad - The Capital Development Authority (CDA) is committed to provide healthy, clean drinking water to the residents of the capital city.

“Water quality is being monitored and ensured by the concerned departments of the CDA as well as other partner organisations,” the CDA officials said yesterday. Chairman CDA, Maroof Afzal chaired a meeting to review the situation of water supply in the city.

He was informed that special measures have been taken to ensure the provision of clean and safe drinking water in the capital city. He was apprised that before supplying water in the city, it is being treated scientifically at the reservoirs or source points.

The meeting was briefed that Pakistan Council for Research in Water Resources (PCRWR) and other organizations frequently conduct water quality tests in the city. “In this way, water quality is monitored by the departments established within the Authority as well as by the outside organizations which further reduces the chances of water contamination”, the meeting was informed. Chairman CDA was told that sufficient quantity of chlorine and other water treating chemicals is available in stock.

If water contamination is reported in any area as per Standard Operating Procedures, water supply is immediately disconnected till the rectification of point of contamination.

Chairman CDA was further told that in order to discourage and remove illegal water connection in the city, a special campaign has been launched. Under this campaign, teams comprising the staff of water supply and other departments of the Authority have disconnected more than 100 illegal water connections from the main water supply line and several people have been challaned in this context. He was informed that sufficient quantity of water is available in CDA’s water reservoirs, however, complaint of water shortage was reported in few segments of the city which were due to electricity fault.

Supply in these areas has been normalized now. He was apprised that there are 250 to 300 water complaints which are being met on daily basis and tanker service is well equipped to redress the 100 percent complaints on daily basis.
