LAHORE: Lahore Capital City Police Officer (CCPO) Chaudhry Shafiq Ahmed has warned the cops that there would be zero-tolerance for illegal detention and police torture on the accused persons during the course of investigations.

The policemen found involved in keeping the accused persons in illegal custody or torturing them at private torture cells would be given exemplary punishment.

The city police chief stated this while presiding over a meeting held to review the crimes situation in the Model Town police division at Police Lines Qila Gujjar Singh on Saturday. DIG (Investigation) Zulifqar Hameed, SSP (Operations) Jawad Qamar, SSP (Investigation) Abdul Rab, and SSP Sohail Sukhera were also present on this occasion besides all the concerned officers.

A police spokesperson said that the CCPO also observed that the policemen who behave badly with the public at police stations are giving bad name to the police department and they have no right to serve in the department.

The CCPO reviewed the crime situation in the Model Town police in-detail and took to task the officers who failed to show good results in the campaigns launched against the hardened criminals and the proclaimed offenders.

The CCPO admonished the station house officers of the Ichhra, Kot Lakhpat, and Liaqatabad police stations.

The police chief also expressed dissatisfaction over the performance of the in-charge (investigation) Shadman, Gulberg, and Kot Lakhpat police station.–Staff Reporter
