LAHORE - The PPP has announced support to the PML-N candidate Khwaja Saad Rafiq on NA-131 Lahore seat. The leaders of both the parties held a joint press conference where the said decision was announced.

PPP General Secretary Central Punjab Ch Manzoor welcomed Khwaja Saad and told media that both the parties were up against the tactics of the undemocratic forces. He condemned arrest of PML-N workers while sharing the party decision on PML-N support to four PPP candidates in Karachi and on Rahimyar Khan seat and withdrawal of PPP’s Asim Bhatti in support of Khwaja Saad Rafiq in NA-131 Lahore.

Khwaja Saad thanked the PPP and pledged joint struggle for true democracy, for which, he added, the PPP had rendered big sacrifices including that of its Chairperson Benazir Bhutto. Democracy would have been much stronger today had Mohtarma Benazir been alive, he said, regretting that PML-N and the PPP failed to move jointly after assassination of the great leader. He said they would deal with others after winning the October 14 by-election.

Khwaja Saad mentioned about the arrest of the PML-N workers in his constituency and said this shows how deep the fear of defeat in the by-election held the PTI government. Khwaja also took serious exception to the prime minister’s statement on the arrest of 50 leaders and said this is a terrible statement as the PML-N knows what the consequences of such actions are. He said the police are conducting raids to apprehend their workers after about three dozen have already been picked up from different places. The arrest of the PML-N workers shows how much the government was baffled at the sure victory of the PML-N in by-elections. He said this time round they will not allow their mandate to be stolen.

Saad also admired Bilawal Bhutto and his style of doing politics and said although vacuum created after the assassination of Benazir Bhutto cannot be filled yet he pinned high hopes on Bilawal’s  politics.
