Lahore - Punjab CM Shehbaz Sharif presided over a meeting to review security arrangements being made for the protection of life and property of people on Eid ul Azha.

In the meeting, police and law enforcement civil agencies were directed to remain fully vigilant. The CM said that foolproof security plan evolved for safeguarding the life and property of the masses should be implemented at all costs. “The current situation demands extraordinary steps for security,” he added.

He said that strict legal action should be taken against those involved in one-wheeling.

Special Assistant Rana Maqbool Ahmed, Chief Secretary, Inspector General Police, Secretary Home, Commissioner Lahore Division and concerned officials were present on the occasion.

Provincial Law Minister Rana Sanaullah participated in the meeting through video link from Faisalabad while MPA Jahangir Khanzada from Attock.

Separately, Member National Assembly from Dera Ghazi Khan Sardar Awais Ahmed Leghari met Punjab Chief Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif, here yesterday and discussed public welfare projects worth billions of rupees being executed in south Punjab. The Chief Minister said that Punjab government is implementing a comprehensive programme for the progress and prosperity of the people of south Punjab and more resources than the ratio of population have allocated under Annual Development Programme for this region.

He said that a sum of 173 billion rupees is being spent for the uplift of south Punjab. The Chief Minister said that metro bus project which is a most modern transport system will soon be completed in Multan and result in availability of comfortable and economical transport facilities to the people of south Punjab.

He said that potable water project costing billions of rupees has also been launched for the people of south Punjab and this project has been initiated from south Punjab. The Chief Minister said that progress and prosperity of the people of south Punjab is very dear to him and he is personally supervising the pace of ongoing projects in this areas. Awais Ahmed Leghari said that Shehbaz Sharif has taken unprecedented measures for the progress and betterment of people of south Punjab and development projects worth billions of rupees for this region are a proof of the love of Chief Minister to the people of this area.

While talking to Federal Minister for Defense Production Rana Tanvir Husain who met him here yesterday, the Chief Minister said, benefits of solid economic policies of the government are reaching the masses. He said that elements engaged in politics of sit-ins and chaos, are against speedy development of the country. He said that those opposing public welfare projects have no concern with the problems of the people and the purpose of sit-ins is to hamper the process of national development and prosperity.

Shehbaz Sharif said that the elements engaged in negative activities will gain nothing and Pakistan Muslim League-N will take Pakistan forward.

Cleanliness

Punjab Chief Minister Shehbaz Sharif has warned the top officials of strict action if proper sanitation arrangements were not maintained throughout the province during Eid days.

Presiding over a meeting yesterday, the chief minister reviewed the arrangements for cleanliness, security in parks and smooth flow of traffic on the occasion of Eid-ul-Azha across Punjab.

He warned against any complaint regarding animal waste and filth from provincial metropolis as well as any other city of the province. “No negligence will be tolerated in timely disposal of offal and animal waste,” the CM stated.

He also directed the staff of Solid Waste Management to remain alert, adding that the administration should ensure proper cleanliness arrangements throughout the province.

The ban on burning of heads and feet of animals at open places should be strictly implemented and stern action be taken over any violation, he added.

Shehbaz Sharif directed that solid waste management companies in other big cities should also be activated on the pattern of Lahore and a plan should be presented within a month regarding capacity building of these companies.

“A large number of people visit parks on the occasion of Eid, therefore, no effort should be spared for providing best recreational facilities in the parks,” he said while stressing foolproof security in parks and other public places.

He also directed the authorities to keep a watchful eye on the prices and quality of edible items.

“Special attention should be paid to maintaining a smooth flow of traffic and special arrangements should be made for this purpose in Lahore, Murree, Patriata and other areas,” Shehbaz added.

The CM appreciated the efforts of MNA Afzal Khokhar with regard to setting up modern cattle markets and model bazaars in different cities of the province. He directed Local Government Secretary to personally supervise all matters in this regard.
