SIALKOT -  Sialkot Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SCCI) President Mansoor Ahmed has urged the government to take appropriate steps for setting up Special Economic Zones (SEZs)in Sialkot to further increase the exports volume.

Talking to APP here on Monday, he said that the business community was ready to play a vibrant role for enhancing exports, adding SEZs would gear up export activities as well as enable local business community to play its dynamic role in enhancing exports volume.

"SEZs have the potential to open up new vistas for industrial growth and generate employment opportunities on a large scale," he reiterated.

The SCCI president pointed out that local business community was confronting shortage of skilled and semi-skilled workforce and asked the Punjab and federal governments to help establish training institutions in the city.

"Such steps will help produce technical manpower in accordance with needs of the local industry," he expressed the optimism.

Ahmad also called for setting up mini industrial estates for accommodating SMEs and vendors.

“These estates should be developed in the outskirts of Sialkot in order to provide employment to industrial workers at their doorstep,” he emphasised.

He said that SCCI had given special attention to the promotion of women entrepreneurship and the SME sector, “SCCI has already established Women Resource Centre for extending necessary support and guidance to women for setting up independent businesses,” he informed.
