LAHORE  - Punjab Irrigation & Drainage Authority (PIDA) has launched water charges (abiana) recovery campaign from the water users in its canal command areas.

In this regard, three different teams have been constituted under the chairmanship of General Manager PIDA Afzal Anjum Toor to recover abiana. This campaign is launched on the instructions of provincial minister irrigation/ chairman PIDA Mian Yawar Zaman.

According to details, a sum of Rs 15 million, recovered from farmers in various area water boards of Lower Chenab Canal System in Faisalabad and it has been deposited in the government kitty. This campaign is expected to be completed this week and GM PIDA is directed to visit operational area water boards in various districts to personally monitor the pace of recovery campaign.

PIDA DGM (Finance) Najam us Saqib Rehmani will monitor water charges recovery campaign in DG Khan Circle while DGM (Social Mobilisation) Shaiq Hussain Abidi and Manager (Revenue) Ahmad Shahid will supervise recovery campaigns in Lower Bari Doab Canal Circle and Bahawalnagar Canal Circle, respectively. PIDA has also planned to give certificates to best performing teams.
