ISLAMABAD - US Ambassador to Pakistan Richard G. Olson has said that the United States remains committed to supporting the people of Pakistan in achieving the strong, stable, and secure nation that Quaid-e-Azam Mohammad Ali Jinnah had envisioned for Pakistan in 1947.

In a message issued here on Tuesday, he said that the United States shares this vision and is dedicated to ensuring our common objectives of helping Pakistan to meet its urgent energy needs, educate its growing population, eliminate the sources of violence and terrorism that have afflicted Pakistani society, and provide economic opportunities to all.

"On behalf of President Obama and the people of the United States, I congratulate the people of Pakistan on the occasion of the 66th anniversary of independence.  This is a particularly historic Independence Day because the citizens of Pakistan participated in a historic transition earlier this year," Olson said.  As Secretary Kerry said during his recent visit to Pakistan, "The people of Pakistan deserve enormous credit for their role in the peaceful transition of power from one democratically-elected government to another."
