LAHORE - Congratulating the nation on the Independence Day, Punjab Chief Minister Shabaz Sharif has stressed the need for unity and spirit of sacrifice.

“69 years have passed since independence yet objectives of creating Pakistan have not been achieved.

The Independence Day provides an opportunity to find out why Pakistan is still facing problems while other countries which achieved independence much later have gone far ahead in development and prosperity,” the CM said in his message on August 14.

Pakistan is the result of historic struggle and sacrifices of millions of Muslims. It was due to dynamic leadership of Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah and the struggle of the Muslims that Pakistan was created, he added.

The CM also called for collective efforts to deal with the challenges like terrorism, extremism and energy crisis.

“Under the leadership of Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, foundation of a prosperous and developed Pakistan has been laid. By adopting golden principles of honesty, trust and hard work the country will be steered out of all crises during the next three years,” he held.

“Pakistan will be made an Islamic welfare state where justice and equal opportunities to all citizens are ensured in accordance with the vision of founders of the country,” Shahbaz Sharif vowed.

Cleanliness plan: Lahore Waste Management Company (LWMC) along with Turkish waste management companies carried out a Fleet March across the city particularly at historic landmark Minar-e-Pakistan in order to mark the celebrations of Independence Day with national zeal and fervor.

Jashan-e-Azadi Caravan equipped with sound systems and carryingslogans of Jashan-e-Azadi was consisted of branded floats, Buses and SWM vehicles.

It started marching from Edgerton Road, passed through Chairing Cross, Istanbul Chowk, Data Darbar, Azadi Bridge, Minar-e-Pakistan. Camps by LWMC, Albayrak and Ozpak were setup at chairing cross to distribute giveaways among visitors and spread the message of cleanliness printed on pamphlets.

Jamil Khawar Head of Communication Department led the Caravan. Deputy Manager Shafqat Rasool, Assistant Managers Asad Ahmed, Muhammad Umair Khan, Rehman Rashid were among other participants. NaeemaSaeed Manager Albayrak also participated in the march along with her team.

On this occasion, Khalid Majeed, Managing Director LWMC said that the purpose of marking Independence Day by bringing put our machinery and workers in the city is to ask citizens not to forget helping our workers in maintaining cleanliness because clean environment is the best thing which we can gift to our nation on the Independence Day.
