PTV win festival hockey match

ISLAMABAD - PTV on Thursday won Jashan-e-Azadi festival hockey match after thrashing Islamabad Tiger Club 4-1 at Naseer Bunda Hockey Stadium. M Ijaz gave PTV lead in the seventh minute of the first half but Zakhir equalized the score in the 10th minute. Despite lime share of the possession, PTV had to wait for the second goal till the third quarter, when M Aamir hit second goal on a plenty corner. Ijaz soon scored the third and Usman fourth in the last quarter to give PTV 4-1 victory. Naseer and Shiraz officiated the match as field umpires. PTV Sports Cell president Col (R) Hassan Hammad Muhammadi was chief guest and distributed prizes among the participants. PSB XI victorious in soccer match

ISLAMABAD - PSB XI beat Islamabad XI 1-0 in Jashan-e-Azadi exhibition soccer match played here at Jinnah Stadium on Thursday. Pakistan Sports Board (PSB) Deputy Director General Syed Habib Shah graced the occasion as chief guest, while DDG Facilities Agha Amjadullah, assistant director hostels, Malik Imtiaz Hussain, ex-PFF information secretary Rana Tanveer Ahmed, IFA officials Saleem Ch, Syed Sharafat Bukhari, M Zaman, Syed Zakir Naqvi, Irfan Niazi and Mama Shadeer were also present on the occasion. PSB started the first half on a whirlwind fashion and put Islamabad defense under tremendous pressure. Their efforts bore fruit immediately as Usman opened the account for PSB XI in the 7th minute of the first half. Both the teams then tried hard to score a goal but in vain as the first half ended 1-0 in favour of PSB XI. The second half saw efforts from both sides but it remained goalless and at the end, it was PSB XI which triumphant with 1-0 score. Islamabad team was awarded four corners, but they failed to convert even a single one while while PSB XI also wasted three corners. PSB XI manager Rana Tanveer and coach Mama Sudheer lauded their team for an impressive win. Senior referee Chaman Khan supervised the match. Aqil to represent Pakistan in seminar

PESHAWAR - The Pakistan Olympic Association (POA) has nominated its vice president Syed Aqil Shah to represent the country in the Pre-Olympic Chef de Mission seminar to be held in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil from August 17-22. This special seminar is held one year before every Olympic Games wherein representative from all members’ countries including Pakistan participate. Many countries including Pakistan didn’t qualify for any discipline. As per rule 38 of the Olympics, all countries must participate and carry their respective flags in the opening ceremony as such Aqil will put in a request for wild cards for its athletes to participate in athletics, swimming, sailing, tennis, weightlifting, badminton and wrestling. Zulfiqar Butt said: “It is a great honor for KP that Aqil will represent Pakistan in the seminar.”–APP

2-member Pak squad to chip in World Judo

ISLAMABAD - Pakistan Judo Federation (PJF) Thursday announced a two-member squad for the World Judo Championship to be staged at Astana, Kazakhstan from August 20 to 31. The squad includes Shah Hussain Shah and Wajahat Sarwar while official comprises Noor Shah Afridi from Fata as a team manager. Afridi, who has initiated judo in FATA, has remained best judoka and owing to his hard work is performing his services as Fata Judo Association secretary. So keeping in mind his services, the PJF selected as a team manager for World Judo Championship. Masood said: "Both the athletes participating in the event are Pakistan's best judokas at present and were undergoing a tough training at Judo Academy in Tokyo, Japan." He said everyone was training really hard for the championship.–APP
