HAFIZABAD

The inhabitants of village situated near Qadirabad barrage have expressed grave concern over the use of substandard material in the repair to choking bund at the barrage and have called upon the Punjab chief minister and the Irrigation Secretary to probe the use of substandard material in the repair.

President Awami Mahaz Rana Khalid Mehmood, in a press statement issued here, said that the contract for the repair to the choking bund was awarded to the contractor at Rs28,600,000, adding that although only 25 percent work could hardly be completed at the site, the Irrigation department issued complete payment to the contractor.

“This is gross negligence and corruption as the department should have wait for completion of the project,” he regretted and urged the Punjab chief minister to take notice of the worst ineptitude and negligence on the part of the officers concerned.

The villagers claimed that the contractor had used substandard material in the repair work, fearing that increase in the water flow might sweep away the bund.

They urged the Punjab government to monitor the repair work and ensure quality material to achieve the goal.
