KARACHI - Judicial Magistrate (West) on Monday remanded two suspected militants of a banned outfit till June 17. The suspects Abdul Razzaq alias Umer alias Sufyan and Rashid Iqbal alias Basit were produced before the court of JM Rasool Bux Mehr Jatt, wherein the court sent them to the police custody for physical remand. According to the prosecution, the suspects have been arrested by the CID police after alleged encounter took place in the Frontier Colony area on Sunday. The prosecution, while quoting a statement filed by the police, submitted that the suspects were arrested after a brief encounter within the precincts of Orangi Town Police Station. However, their accomplices managed to escape under the cover of firing. The arrested suspects were said to be closed associates of Commander Wali Mehsud Group of the banned Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan. The police have also claimed to recover two hand grenades, 20 kilograms explosive material, two TT pistols, detonating wires, electronic devices and 200 bullets from their possession. The militants were allegedly involved in incidents of targeted killings, kidnapping for ransom and robberies in the city. They are also accused of recruiting youngsters in order to send them to tribal areas for training. The police have also submitted that during the preliminary course of interrogation the arrested accused have confessed that they had recruited some six youngsters and sent them to Waziristan.
