BUREWALA - The negotiations of the Vehari Extra Assistant Director of Agriculture with local commission agents of Burewala grain markets could not be held due to irresponsible behaviour of the Burewala Market Committee administrator here on Monday. The two grain markets of subdivision including Burewala - Gaggo Mandi and Fruit and Vegetable Market - have stopped payment of daily market fee to the Market Committee causing a huge loss to the Punjab government. The stoppage of funds was because of various allegations of misdealing, non-payment of development funds and corruption charges against Committee Administrator Lala Muhammad Hayat. Earlier the high authorities took notice of the prevailing situation and ordered the officials concerned to resolve the issue. Therefore, EADA Rana Ghulam Rasool visited the market to discuss the issue with the commission agents of the markets but the administrator refused to attend the meeting. Resultantly, the commission agents representatives boycotted the meeting. Later talking to the media, the representatives including Fruit Market President Haji Muhammad Ashiq, General Secretary Muhammad Shafi, Grain Market former president Muhammad Shafique, General Secretary Muhammad Shahid and others condemned the irresponsible and arrogant behaviour of the administrator and demanded his immediate dismissal. They said that a competent and dedicated official should be appointed as administrator to resolve the issues. Official caught taking bribe: An FIA team carried out a raid and arrested red-handed an Mepco Azimabad Sub-Division Line Superintendent taking bribe here on Monday. Line Superintendent Muhammad Qaiser Bhatti was caught red-handed by the FIA officials when he was receiving Rs5000 bribe from a consumer in his office. Canal breach causes inundation: A breach in a local canal inundated standing crops of cotton, paddy, maize and vegetables over hundreds acres here near Chak 433/EB the other day. The sudden 25 feet breach in 5-L distributary inundated standing cotton, paddy and vegetables crops over 200,000 acres. The Irrigation Department officials have formed a team to repair the breach at the earliest to fill the gap and managed to overcome it after hours long efforts. Biker dies saving cyclist: A motorcyclist succumbed to his injuries while saving a cyclist near Adda Mana Morr on Lahore Road here on Monday. Rana Abdul Majeed, a resident of Arifwala along with his wife and daughter was on way back to Arifwala after attending the death anniversary of his sister at Mujahid Colony. When he reached Adda Mana Morr on Lahore Road they came across a cyclist. Meanwhile, in his effort to save the cyclist he lost control over the bike and fell on the road. Resultantly, he, his wife and daughter sustained critical wounds and were rushed to THQ Hospital Burewala from where Abdul Majeed was referred to Nishtar Hospital Multan but he succumbed to his injuries.
